What are sliding windows?

SLIDING There are unlimited possibilities for maximising the views from your home with space saving sliding windows – ease of installation and maintenance are reasons for the strong demand favouring Sliding Double Glazed Upvc windows.  Many of our clients feel comfortable with sliding windows because of their ease of operation and simply because that is what they are accustomed to. This is not surprising, since sliding windows and doors are often described as one of the most fashionable developments on the Modern Architectural Design of the 20th century.

As the name suggests, a horizontal sliding window glides left or right to open and close. It uses tracks at the top and bottom of a single frame to work efficiently. Sliding windows are often seen in a two-panel formation, although three or more panels are also possible for larger openings.

Also known as a three-lite sliding window, in this instance, the middle panel is stationary while the outer sashes move in and out. Similarly, a two-panel sliding window usually features one fixed panel and another that moves, although can feature two operable panels in some cases.

Meanwhile, a double-hung window is operated in a similar fashion, only vertically. With a double-hung window, two operating sashes move up and down rather than side to side. A single-hung window works the same except the top panel is stationary and only the bottom one moves up and down. Both are sometimes referred to as a vertical sliding window.

Sliding windows offer an excellent level of ventilation when open, with airflow completely unobstructed by the frame or panels. A long lip or handle along one edge of the moveable panel makes it easy to open and close. This makes them popular in hard to reach spaces such as above a kitchen counter or sink.

Sliding windows also offer beautiful views and the maximum amount of natural light – a great choice for homes where the surrounding landscape has something to offer. Due to the way they function, sliding windows are also handy for spaces next to a patio or walkway, where something that opens outwards might get in the way. Using fewer complex parts than other types of conventional windows, they are also thought to be more durable with less potential for wear and tear.

UPVC sliding windows are a fantastic contemporary option, offering the possibility of frames in a huge assortment of colours and styles. Frames can also be a different colour on the outside to the interior if desired.

How do I proceed?

Ideally, you should have an idea of the type and colour of windows you would like, the budget and the timescale.  These could still be at the stage of ideas, but they are a good starting point.  Looking online for different styles, ideas or going to showrooms can help if you have time.  Else the windows specialist will be able to guide you through the different options.

__________

Is financing available?

Each house is different and requires a different quote.  The quote is FREE with no obligation from your part.  By being FCA regulated, the window supplier and fitter is able to offer you a finance offer that will suit your needs.

What can I do to reduce the cost?

One of the methods to reduce the cost of new windows is by knowing exactly what you are looking for.  This includes the style, colour, handles, but also anything linked to security and locking mechanism.  You could also take out the old windows and dispose of them yourself, but the drawback is that you will have no guarantees of workmanship and it could make the job harder if the windows have not been taken out properly.
