My Classic Windows

We Help Make uPVC Windows Renovations a Success

My Classic Windows was founded by LGUK after its owner had new windows installed in their home.  Initially, the choice of suppliers was overwhelming and it was difficult to differentiate the quality suppliers to the others.

In the beginning, all they wanted was a local windows company that would manage the the supply and installation of the windows.  All the frames and options are to be bespoke and supply and fitted by one windows company.

LGUK partnered with one Scottish windows company with showrooms in Glasgow.  The company utilises the latest machinery and techniques in the industry and maintains a high quality standard that is expected by our clients.

We recognise that windows and doors is a space that has now become not only the pivotal point of the home, but also one of the most significant parts of a modern warm home.

It’s a space where the family needs to feel comfortable, and comes together either privately or with friends.  When our partner windows and doors specialist install double glazing doors, they design it with your family’s practical needs in mind while still focusing on developing a modern and natural aesthetics for the space.

The business philosophy has remains the same since inception – build beneficial long term relationships with the industry leading windows and doors suppliers to reduce the cost of the raw materials – which in turn provides the customers with a high quality product for a fair price.

All windows are custom designed and built in-house to reduce the total project cost and timing for all our clients.

Exceeding our clients expectations by making their dream windows a reality is what continues to drive LGUK and our partners to keep growing and improving.

___________

Where do I start?

Ideally, you should have an idea of the type and colour of windows you would like, the budget and the timescale.  These could still be at the stage of ideas, but they are a good starting point.  Looking online for different styles, ideas or going to showrooms can help if you have time.  Else the windows specialist will be able to guide you through the different options.

__________

How much will it cost for the windows?

Each house is different and requires a different quote.  The quote is FREE with no obligation from your part.  By being FCA regulated, the window supplier and fitter is able to offer you a finance offer that will suit your needs.

What can I do to reduce the cost?

One of the methods to reduce the cost of new windows is by knowing exactly what you are looking for.  This includes the style, colour, handles, but also anything linked to security and locking mechanism.  You could also take out the old windows and dispose of them yourself, but the drawback is that you will have no guarantees of workmanship and it could make the job harder if the windows have not been taken out properly.

Common questions

Maybe we have an answer for you here . . .

By using new double glazed windows and new doors, your home will become be more thermally efficient. This in turn, will reduce your energy bills in both the warmer and cooler months. uPVC windows and doors are manufactured from durable material, which has been tested, the uPVC will not flake, peel, blister, rot, rust or corrode. On top, the double glazed windows and doors improve the noise insulation and they have improved security with multi-point locking systems.

uPVC is an abbreviation of for Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride. It is a rigid PVC. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) is a commonly produced thermoplastic material. Colour is inserted through the complete thickness of the material meaning, that if it were to be scratched, the marks can be polished out. uPVC can be welded to give clean joins and it will not corrode.  This means it is an ideal material for house that are exposed to the harsh British weather.

The extrusion process of uPVC uses up to 3 times less energy than the same process for aluminium. Most new uPVC frames contain no traces of lead.

Yes, your windows can be replaced as your new windows are made to measure so will easily fit directly into the existing window and door opening.

The insulation factor is also better than aluminium framed windows and will not rot like wooden ones.

It is worth checking with your planning department to see if you reside in a conservation area.

As your windows and doors are bespoke to your home, any colour is possible.  You are not restricted to white as in the past.

It is also possible to have a different colour for inside and outside.

It is currently very fashionable to have anthracite windows for outside.

The only maintenance uPVC double glazed  windows and doors may require is to oil or lubricate the locking mechanism occasionally. To clean simply use mild soapy water and a sponge.

You can ask any questions to your window surveyor.  The window surveyor is very knowledgeable on the windows and you should bring up ay concern you may have.  This can  include noise reduction, to increased security, to legal requirements (for example: fire exits, security glass...).

The surveyor will have enough experience to give you ideas for your windows and show you previous projects.

With a firm and tight closing mechanism and gas filled double glazing the windows and doors significantly reduce outside noise by up to an eighth of the original noise level. They protect against sound transmission up to 44db.  They are ideally suited for all homes and buildings.

It is possible to reduce the outside noise even more, by using triple glazed or having a thicker glass panel.  Triple glazed does increase significantly the weight of the window.

uPVC windows and doors are a competitively priced.  This is because our partnered firms supply and fit their windows.  The manufacturing process is streamlined.

Price is also determined by size, colour, style and lock.

Other systems don’t have the same advantages of continual savings on your energy bills and maintenance costs.

Expect a 4 to 7 week turnaround after your deposit has been paid.

Your job may take less time depending on a number of factors:; quantity, size of the project, specification of the windows and doors system and prior commitments and the factory schedule.

We always communicate with you the expected timescale and will endeavour to provide a prompt and efficient service.

Yes, the colour of the frame will remain the same over time.

The older uPVC frames would sometimes discolour if they were exposed to the sun. The newer uPVC panels are made using "tropical mixes" specially designed to resist the sun.

The uPVC window frames used have all been tested for the harsh British weather, including the sun, rain and wind.

Double glazing windows are made of 2 components.
The first one is the frame that will hold the glass panels.  The frame makes the connection between the house and the glass.  Depending on your options, the frame may have security locks, hinges and handles.
The second element is the glass unit.  These are made of two glass panels (hence double glazing or three glass panels (triple glazing) that are hermetically sealed.

The unit is sealed to prevent any dust or moisture to get between the glass.
The gas in between the panels can be air, but it is most often argon for its thermal insulation properties.
.

Yes, uPVC is recyclable.  Most of the material used in making the windows are recyclable.  The only step required is to separate the uPVC frame, metal and glass.

Creating the size is not an issue, the problem is the weight and making sure the supporting wall can take it.

for example a unit which is about 2600x2400 weights approximately 310kg or 48 stones 11 lbs!

We may also need to use specialist lifting equipment on site.

The typical unit will consist of 4mm glass panels with 20mm between them.

It is possible to thicken one of the panels, as this will increase the sound insulation, without adding as much weight as triple glazing.

The glass panels can be toughened, regular and/or frosted.

The glass panels are typically installed from the inside side.  This means that it is very difficult to break the frame from outside to remove the windows.  In actual facts the glass can only be removed from inside. You can choose windows and doors with multiple locking hardware (Tilt and Turn being the best option) and we install lockable handles to all windows as standard.

When you install new double glazed windows, you’ll improve the security of your home by a big margin. The double glazing provides an extra barrier to get through, while triple glazing adds yet another, and the secure multi-point locking mechanisms of all doors and windows plus superior strength handles offer extra security.

Currently we only cover Scotland and the North East of England.

As its name suggests, a single glazed window is made using one pane of glass. This means the only thing between your home and the outside temperature is a pane of glass which doesn’t give adequate insulation. A single glazed window is not very efficient when it comes to heat loss or gain. Double glazed windows use two panes of glass with a vacuumed air gap between them which creates an insulated barrier. Double glazed glass is laminated or tinted, but is similar to single glazed window glass otherwise.

The effectiveness of new windows can vary based on how they were installed, type of windows and frames used. You also need to consider the climate in your area and exposure to other factors, such as wind, sea or rain. Installing double glazed windows is best when building or renovating your home, but can be done anytime. Remember that removing or installing windows is a messy job and should not be a D.I.Y. project. You also need to consider the re-plastering, redecorating, and refitting of your blinds and curtains. Also take additional care if some windows are built in load bearing walls.

Condensation is a common issue in most homes and occurs when moist air meets cooler objects. The two window surfaces are each closer to the adjacent temperatures, reducing build-up of condensation and mould.
