What are tilt and turn windows?

Tilt position: tilts the sash inwards at the top providing excellent ventilation while maintaining security and safety. Turn position: window sash hinges from one side enabling the window to open fully allowing maximum ventilation and means of escape in case of emergency.

Tilt and turn windows open inwards using a mechanical hinge on two axes. They are operated using a single handle that angles the window inwards from the bottom, allowing ventilation at the top. A tilt and turn window can also be opened inwards from the side for additional ventilation when required, or to be used as an emergency escape route.

One of the main benefits of tilt and turn windows is safety and security. They are considered more secure than their conventional counterparts due to robust operational hardware. Because it opens inwards, there is no way it can be forcibly pulled open, with multiple locking points to protect from intruders. The style is also ideally suited to families with young children, with no risk of them falling out from the smaller opening at the top. Therefore, warmer days can be enjoyed worry-free.

Tilt and turn windows work well in openings that are taller than they are wide but can also be paired with stationary windows or other types for larger openings. They are useful in spaces that need flexible ventilation, such as bathrooms and kitchens.

Another great benefit of installing tilt and turn windows is how easy it is to keep them clean. The fact that they open inwards means you can clean both sides of the glass without leaning out – a practical solution for rooms on higher levels or where the window is difficult to reach from the outside.

UPVC tilt and turn windows are a fantastic choice for modern homes and can be made energy efficient with good quality double glazing. UPVC frames come in a large array of colours, helping you pick something to suit your style and requirements.

How do I proceed?

Ideally, you should have an idea of the type and colour of windows you would like, the budget and the timescale.  These could still be at the stage of ideas, but they are a good starting point.  Looking online for different styles, ideas or going to showrooms can help if you have time.  Else the windows specialist will be able to guide you through the different options.

__________

Is financing available?

Each house is different and requires a different quote.  The quote is FREE with no obligation from your part.  By being FCA regulated, the window supplier and fitter is able to offer you a finance offer that will suit your needs.

What can I do to reduce the cost?

One of the methods to reduce the cost of new windows is by knowing exactly what you are looking for.  This includes the style, colour, handles, but also anything linked to security and locking mechanism.  You could also take out the old windows and dispose of them yourself, but the drawback is that you will have no guarantees of workmanship and it could make the job harder if the windows have not been taken out properly.
