What are awning windows?
Awning windows are windows that open outwards from the bottom, with a hinge at the top. Also sometimes known as top hung or top guided windows, they have a range of benefits.
Awning windows are popular in wet climates due to the fact the window continues to block out rain even once opened. This provides ventilation on warm, rainy days while protecting interior furnishings from getting damp. It also protects the interior mechanisms and hardware of the window itself, reducing wear and tear and lengthening its lifespan. They are a great choice for smaller spaces where privacy is required, such as bathrooms and garages.
Awning windows are also thought to be more secure than some other types of windows. This is because any opening at the bottom is likely to be too small or difficult for an intruder to get through. They are often placed in higher locations for privacy or used in combination with fixed, non-operational windows.
A small awning window placed directly above a stationary window allows for a little added ventilation without impacting the view. A window lock or safety catch can be used in conjunction with awning windows on the second floor to prevent children or animals from falling out.
In addition, awning windows are thought to be more energy-efficient than typical sliding windows. This is because the top hinge combined with multi-point locks at the bottom provides a nice tight seal. When paired with double glazed panels, awning windows offer better insulation and reduce the amount of energy required to heat your home. This means that as well as shaving costs off your heating bill, they are considered more environmentally friendly too.
The most typical opening for an awning window is horizontal, although vertical awning windows are also possible. They can be stacked on top of one another, however, it’s more common to see them used in conjunction with stationary and casement windows in residential properties. Airflow is maximised when windows are grouped together like this.
Whether you simply want to update your current awning window with more modern frames or energy-efficient double glazing, or would like to have a brand new one fitted, we can help. We partner with trusted local fitters and suppliers while manufacturing all of our own windows in-house.

How do I proceed?
Ideally, you should have an idea of the type and colour of windows you would like, the budget and the timescale. These could still be at the stage of ideas, but they are a good starting point. Looking online for different styles, ideas or going to showrooms can help if you have time. Else the windows specialist will be able to guide you through the different options.
__________
Is Financing available?
Each house is different and requires a different quote. The quote is FREE with no obligation from your part. By being FCA regulated, the window supplier and fitter is able to offer you a finance offer that will suit your needs.
What can I do to reduce the cost?
One of the methods to reduce the cost of new windows is by knowing exactly what you are looking for. This includes the style, colour, handles, but also anything linked to security and locking mechanism. You could also take out the old windows and dispose of them yourself, but the drawback is that you will have no guarantees of workmanship and it could make the job harder if the windows have not been taken out properly.
